duke@0 1 README:
ohair@7650 2 This file should be located at the top of the OpenJDK Mercurial root
ohair@7650 3 repository. This root repository will include a "make" directory,
ohair@7650 4 and a Makefile for building the entire OpenJDK.
ohair@7650 5 A full OpenJDK repository set (forest) should also include the following
ohair@7650 6 6 nested repositories:
ohair@7650 7 "jdk", "hotspot", "langtools", "corba", "jaxws" and "jaxp".
ohair@7650 8 There are also several source downloads for the jax* repositories that
ohair@7650 9 will be needed.
ohair@7650 10
ohair@7650 11 This one root repository can be obtained with something like:
ohair@7650 12 hg clone http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7 openjdk7
ohair@7650 13 To make sure you have all the nested repositories, you can run:
ohair@7650 14 cd openjdk7 && sh ./get_source.sh
ohair@7650 15 (This is identical to using the Mercurial Forest Extension command
ohair@7650 16 'hg fclone http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/jdk7 openjdk7').
ohair@7650 17 People unfamiliar with Mercurial should read the first few chapters of
ohair@7650 18 the Mercurial book: http://hgbook.red-bean.com/read/
duke@0 19
duke@0 20 See http://openjdk.java.net/ for more information about the OpenJDK.

duke@0 22 Simple Build Instructions:
ohair@7650 23
ohair@7650 24 0. Get the necessary system software/packages installed on your system, see
ohair@7650 25 http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk7/build/raw-file/tip/README-builds.html
duke@0 26
ohair@7650 27 1. If you don't have a jdk6 installed, download and install a JDK 6 from
duke@0 28 http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
ohair@7650 29 Set the environment variable ALT_BOOTDIR to the location of JDK 6.
duke@0 30
ohair@7650 31 2. Check the sanity of doing a build with your current system:
duke@0 32 gnumake sanity
duke@0 33 See README-builds.html if you run into problems.
duke@0 34
ohair@7650 35 3. Do a complete build of the OpenJDK:
duke@0 36 gnumake all
duke@0 37 The resulting JDK image should be found in build/*/j2sdk-image
duke@0 38
ohair@7360 39 where gnumake is GNU make 3.81 or newer, /usr/bin/make on Linux and
duke@0 40 /usr/sfw/bin/gmake or /opt/sfw/bin/gmake on Solaris.
